This is a family heirloom that was in my grandparents' den. I think it is from the early 1960s. These are still being made but I think just molded in blue with the mules in brown. This is only an 18 mule team set as two mules are missing. These show up on eBay often so there should not be a problem getting the missing pieces.
The relatively close town of Boron is nearby, perhaps an hour and a half away. These 20 mule team wagons used to cross the Mojave Desert down the hill on the backside of the mountain. I will make a pilgrimage to the Borax Museum in Boron sometime soon.

I have one of these that I ordered by mail during the run of the TV show DEATH VALLEY DAYS. It is still in the box. I've tried to kickstart putting it together in a realistic diorama. So far something continues to get in the way. One of these days............

Thank you very much Kerry. It would have to be western and vintage but would be a good idea.

Here's a outtake from Wikipedia : From 1952 to 1975, Death Valley Days was produced as a syndicated television series. One of Ronald Reagan's final television roles was host of Death Valley Days in 1964-65. Reagan also acted in some episodes

Thank you very much Kerry for the info. Death Valley is 4 hours away. I should visit sometime. I think the show was loosly set around Death Valley.

I actually have two original sets in the box that were sent as prizes. I have not put then together but enjoy them still. They have the original address they were sent to on the boxes, I got them at a sale about 25 years ago.
