I recently was able to add this very rare piece of Mrazek pottery to my collection. Rare is a greatly overused term and I don't use it often, but there several things make this rare.
The Pattern is M, as seen on the foot written in pencil. It isn't so rare, but having a black background is. I've only seen a couple pieces. The most rare aspect is the form or mold. I had seen this in an ad from the company in the 20's, but it is a form not seen by collectors. I also believe this to be a repainted piece. The interior is a thick green color used only a few pieces, most notably the rare pattern DG. Not many pieces are to be found so it may not have been popular. Pieces are known to have been returned to be redecorated. It is likely this is one of those pieces. Comments are welcome
What a lovely piece! I love the shape.
Do you mean after you purchased a piece you could return it and ask for a different design to be painted on it?
The pieces returned were by the retail outlets such as jewelry stores. Some pattern were not popular and sent back to Czechoslovakia where they were repainted. I have a couple pieces that have the old pattern mark on the bottom. Very uncommon but did happen.
