Okay Kerry here's what I do know.
It says:
Wittenauer Geneve Quartz and at the bottom, it does say Swiss.
The 'Crystal' doesn't seem to be crystal at all, I believe it's plastic. Beveled plastic at that??? Very scratched up and does have a small crack that doesn't go all the way thru. (this watch is also very filthy)
The crown does not have anything on it. No 'W', I don't know if authentic Wittenauer has that or not. The band says Speidel, USA and then there's that calendar that's held on with tabs. the front says 1985 one of the tabs says US No. 3
An added feature to this watch is the day/date are both in English AND Spanish! Is that normal? I don't think I've ever seen that before. And this watch has been very worn but I can't imagine wearing a watch with the calendar attached to it. Did someone just add that to the watch? It doesn't look like a 1985 watch to me. I think it may be older but that's why I'm asking you ;)
An adjustment needs to be made to the crown as it does not wind properly, like something is not catching. It's not stuck as if over wound and I won't open it, special tool required.
SO, my question is...is this authentic and worth fixing? Is it 1985? I get nothing in a search using that year, I just don't know. It's weight=65.6g
I think it would be nice if fixed...but I don't know if I should.
Thanks so much Kerry, I really appreciate it.
Oh and something else I found odd, the only thing on the back says "stainless steel". That's it and nothing else. I'm thinking it's not authentic.
Thanks Phil! Much appreciated!
Good Day Shareurpassion, I would say it's an authentic Witt, but without in hand, really hard to say 100%. These were a consumer watch and sold fairly high back in the day, for what they really were. The calendar is an item that was attached by outsider, but is a good dating material. The 1980's was the introduction to quartz movements for wristwatches, no matter the brand name. As for repairs......hmmm, it's not really a high dollar watch and would probably cost more to repair than replacement cost. But if a battery replacement would bring it back to life, I'd do same and use as a "wear" piece. These are very good timekeepers.
I might be totally off base, but that's my opinion.
Thanks for sharing
Kerry
Sorry for the delay Kerry! Thank you so much, I respect your opinion. Mr wall to wall! lol I wasn't sure it did take a battery and I didn't take a loss on it, so it's all good. It does remind me of a Timex as far as the looks go and it would make a good everyday for someone. My friend said he could polish out the scratches on the cover so I'll probably just pass it on to him then if he wants it...
Thanks so much again!!! xoxo
Thank you to everyone that stopped by and showed the love!!! Love y'all too!!! ;)
Thomas! Good one!!! I love that song and saw them years ago. Got 2 pics from that concert and made earrings out of them. Wow, haven't thought about that for a long time. I did that a lot back then from many different concerts. I can't remember if they used to throw them out to everyone or was it because most concerts I went to, I would just walk in to the backstage area like I owned the place. I really did. The hardest one to get to the back was Eric Clapton, but I did it! Ended up with Buddy Guy's signature too, I believe I still have that somewhere. Will post when I find it... it may take a few years tho so don't hold your breath!!!
Thanks to all that stopped in and hit that love button!
