This large Victorian rainbow spangle glass vase measures 24 cm tall, 14 cm across the double crimped top rim & 7.8 cm across the base.
It is made from three layers of cased glass - clear over pink, blue & yellow stripes with silver mica inclusions, with a white interior.
The crimped top also has a clear crest on the edge. Rough snapped pontil mark underneath. This was sold as American art glass - Hobbs Brockunier - but I think it is more likely Bohemian.
I have said before that I'm trying not to buy any more large vases but how could I resist? :-) I have always wanted a really impressive specimen of rainbow spangle glass & this fits the bill. I do have some other rainbow spangle pieces but they are spatter rather than stripes. Anyway, it is now rubbing shoulders with my Welz yellow frit vase, another larger than life piece.
I love candy....
Looks good enough to eat - strawberry, banana & blueberry flavoured, perhaps? :-)
What a gorgeous vase! The colors are so bright and defined - really wonderful. And I agree with Karen - like candy! (Do you have Skittles in Australia?) :)
Many thanks Michelle! Yes we have Skittles...A lot of my glass has candy colours. So much Victorian glass looks like fanciful confectionery!
