This thorn handled basket is about 5x7" and 8" tall. The transparent blue is cased in the milk white glass, and a clear thorn twist handle has been applied. The rim is crimped in an alternating patter of two narrow and one wide. The base has a small pontil scar. I believed this was perhaps an early variant of Fenton Jamestown Crest, but thanks to input from Ironlace and others, I have changed my opinion to Victorian era. Hope you enjoy, a very pretty basket with some age on it.
Thank you Caperkid & Efesgirl!
Very unique and really beautiful!!
Lovely basket - I think this is a Victorian era piece rather than Fenton. I have handled a lot of glass baskets including many by Fenton, & this has far more Victorian charactersitics - the snapped rough pontil, the thorn handle, even the rather elaborate crimp, which is just a touch more fancy than the crimps seen on Fenton glass. I think Fenton brought in the Jamestown blue colour in the 1960s, & even though their designs referred to Victorian glass in many cases, this just doesn't look like it could have been made in the 60s. Could be Bohemian, maybe English.
Thank you for the great information Iron Lace, much appreciated!

Gracias Sean :-)
Happy to help! It's beautiful - & what a great find for $5! I love bargain finds too, & I cannot walk past an op shop (what we call thrift stores in Australia) without having a look...there's always a treasure of some sort waiting to be found.
