Hi: We found this Nippon Imperial Vase in my husband's grandmother's belongings and have no idea where it initially came from, when it was made and if it has any value. I tried to locate anything that looked similar in it's winter house scene scene but couldn't find anything. I took the vase photos with a light shining inside in order to make the design painted on the outside a bit more clear in a photo. I also included the stamp on the bottom. It has gold colored dots around the neck of the vase. If anyone has one like it I would be interested in it's history. Thanks.
The Nippon mark age was between around 1890 and 1920, so your vase would date from then. Not much is known about who actually made Nippon Imperial, but this vase in particular is a beautiful shape and the moriage work on the neck is really great. You may not find anything with a similar scene as there was a huge variety and as they all were hand painted each could be quite rare. I think this snowy mountain scene is great - very unusual.
Value is probably best determined by searching completed sales is Ebay.
I think it's lovely, and a great family find.
Thank you Racer4four! I have searched EBAY but I found the values to range from $50 to hundreds of dollars. I did not see a similar neck style , snowy painted scene or quite the delicacy of this piece. I also went to our local library and looked at a book written by Jane Van Patten that has many photos of Nippon pieces but was also unable to find anything that closely resembled this piece. Thank you for you comments. I will keep researching. Unfortunately, both of my husband's grandparents are deceased so further information on how and where they obtained this vase is unknown. Thanks again for you comments. I agree it's so lovely and we are thrilled to have it.
