I stopped at a yard sale and they had baby toys and baby stuff. I noticed this on the table and I thought what a ugly beat up toy. I actually felt sorry for it. I thought it might have been steiff but it was so funky cute that I wasn't quite sure. One day I was thumbing through some toys online and saw a larger version of him. I freaked out at first, I thought it was a steiff but I didn't know it was a rare steiff!! Billy possum, at that time was made for the president elected for his comment on possums. margrette steiff thought since the teaddy bear was popular to Theodore rosevelt That a possum would be popular to for this president..When billy was produced The public considered him ugly because he looked more like a rat then a possum..nobody wanted a toy that looked like a rat, so very few were sold or kept for very long. Billy was produced only for a couple years. He is approx 6" head to the butt. Billy has been so loved and well used it could use a resto but I like to see the care somebody gave him keeping him together all these years.
Ohhh, I think he is really cute...poor little thing!!
Very cool I would have bought it. I have one that actually is a rat. Well it is supposed to be a rat. Not an actual rat.
Yep - 1910-1914. He's still adorable!
