This Victorian vase is another one of my sentimental favourites. I bought it 20 years ago this year, & on the day I was going to visit a friend in his studio. On my way, I popped into a little shop - a real "junk" shop, it had a lot of random odds & ends & most of them rubbishy or downright mediocre. This beauty stood out from the trash, & it was a bargain. Later showing it off to my friend, he remarked "What kind of flower will you put in it?", to which I replied "It's too good to put flowers in!"
When I do have cut flowers they always go into big, plain vases...even though I have hundreds of fancy ones.
This one is made from cased glass, with a milky opalescent interior overlaid with salmon pink with a swirling ribbed pattern. There is an applied trail of dark green on the double crimped rim. It measures 19.5 cm tall, 7 cm across the top, & 3.5 cm across the base, which has a snapped pontil mark. I think it is probably of Bohemian origin.
As a fan of pink glass, this is my favourite shade - a true salmon pink - which is not often seen.

The deep green edging sets it off to perfection!

This is gorgeous! I love the colors. I have seen this decor attributed to Stevens & Williams several times (of which I am not an expert at all!) so you may want to look at their work just to see if there are other examples of this. I realize many Bohemian vases are wrongly attributed to them, but it may a good idea, based on the unique color combination. I am curious about it, myself!

Thanks so much, Michelle! It definitely is a unique colour scheme, I have only seen two other examples on eBay in all the years I've been on it. One of them I was close to buying, but just missed out. It was the same colour, with green applied handles. I do get uncertain about S&W attributions. It would be great if there was a book just on their products. I do have plenty of books on Victorian glass, but even they aren't always reliable.
