I found these really cool antique bookends at a yard sale a while back. Did not pay much for them. Got home and did a little research and they are Dante and Beatrice. These are very nicely made with some paint loss-but that just adds to their character, right?

Not sure, Caperkid, they do have some weight to them. Also, after seeing the pics, I realize I need to dust some ;)

Caperkid, I found some on eBay and they said bronze and that they date 192's-1930's.
