I found this bowl in a thrift shop and just want to know more about it because it reminds me of a dogs bowl but its made of at least silver coating I believe because it tarnishes and then when I clean it up, it shines nicely. What kind of bowl is this? Is it for Hugh Hefner's dog? Lol its about 8¾ inches on top side to side and bottom its 7¼ inches and it's 3 inches high. I really want to know what the mark is. Its very hard to research so I'm coming here. Any help would be much appreciated. God Bless.
This is part of some other set - I don't think it's possible to trace it.
Efesgirl, thanks for your input. Can you elaborate as to how you came to that conclusion that its part of a set? Also, do you know what that mark is? Can you decipher what is below the mark? And, what do you think it is?
We don't know what metal this is. Silver plated, copper, etc. All it says is "Made in Italy" with an obscure mark above it, which seems to be "AR O" under another obscure mark.
Just for your information here's a sample of just one form of researching Italian marks for silver plate, which also has some marks for 925 Sterling or other similar Sterling numbers.

With just the information given on the piece itself, as Efesgirl says, it's just not possible to trace. We don't know what this bowls(?) intended use was. I see there's a lip running around the inside - does that indicated another piece of smaller size would fit on top of that lip?
