I just got this brooch and am a bit intrigued by it. Am wondering if maybe it has been pieced together. The pin part does not match the color of brooch. Also, I have never seen a pin closure like this-you have to pull up the little nail to release the pin. I thought initially it might be silver but have not seen any marks. Any ideas???

The clasp is a trombone clasp which was used up until the 1950s in Europe. The brooch is an umbrella. The loop might have been for a safety chain. The clasp might have been repaired with tin solder.

Thanks for that info Efesgirl. I just found a similar one on eBay under vintage French The tour Eiffel Tower charm umbrella brooch. The pin is a different color on that one too and it is in a different spot.

Yep - I looked it up. Yours looked exactly like that one, once upon a time. The pin had to be re-positioned after the handle was broken off.

      :-((((
