My Grandfather's desk clock is a mystery to me. It has many features of C1929 New Haven shelf clocks but I cannot find the model name or number. Could it be an assemblage of different parts?
My Grandfather was a banker who opened Branches in Western Canada. He came to Canada from Edinburgh, Scotland C1930. He died when I was young so much of what I know of him came from the trinkets that were left untouched, on his home office desk. Through these items I traced his travels and aquaintances. This clock was perhaps my favourite item as a young girl in the '70s because I thought it was Scottish! Not.
The mahogany (swing) stand with turnip knobs commonly holds a very distinctive Cathedral shaped 3-sided face. BUT on my Grandfather's desk clock the clock face is OVAL which I can only find in 1 model from 1933 on which the oval face sits sideways! Newhaven's 1925 "Romany" and 1929 "Gamma" have the same, distinctive numerals as my mystery-model desk clock. Those faces are both round.
I guess I'll never know much about this clock just like I know little about my Grandfather. I love them both anyway.
My 'mystery-model,' clock face reads 'New Haven'
'12 Day' 'Jewelled' and at the bottom, 'Made in USA.'
