As I have said in my previous posts I'm trying to search out different things that Bernard Instone designed. This hair brush is just that sort of thing I'm looking for, also the beauty of it, it is signed, prefect. The enamel is typical of his work, I do have jewellery with enameling identical which he didn't sign, this brush confirms to me that these pieces are his. Around the top rim you can see the hand hammered silver, I think the bristles are horse hair, which bothered me a bit, but I do know Bernard Instone loved horses. During the WW1 he was so upset about the number of horses killed, so I'm presuming that the hair probably came from the grooming. There are still pieces of silver gold hair in the bristles, obviously from a child, I don't know whether to leave them or take them out.

    Many thanks for looking

Could it be a grooming brush? Wouldn't there be a handle on a child's hair brush? Perhaps a clothes brush - is that what you meant jscotto? It's so beautiful whatever it is.

Fantastic, it does confirm the attribution for Instone unsigned turquoise enamel jewellery!

Oh my giddy aunt! How stunning is that?
I've seen spoons and napkin rings around online, I wonder how many other things he made?

Hi Gillian, I was thinking along the lines of a clothes brush, I've put a link above which it says brush its not specific if it is a hair brush. I suppose with the hair in the bristles I assumed it was an hair brush. Thanks for your comment.

Yes kyra, I think the enameling on this brush points to a great attribution for unsigned Bernard Instone turquoise enamel jewellery.

Hi pebble, it certainly points to your wonderful collection of turquoise enamel jewellery being Bernard Instone. I have a christening set signed B.I (Bernard Instone)with the same enameling, I shall be putting it on soon. I'm sure there are many other things he made, I'll keep searching. Thank you for your comment.
