These little glass cups are so pretty and very well-made. I found the first one at a flea market in Virginia several years ago and then I came across the other one at a later date. These are a dark purple color and feature two different birds on either side. I saw similar ones on eBay a while back and said that they were turn of the century – I would not of thought they were that old but I guess I could be. Anyway I like the color of them

I usually think, "artificially irradiated", when I see any EAPG patterns in this color. This is called 'Peacock and Heron' and originally from the late 1800s. The mug has been reproduced by Degenhart and Boyd in various colors...

Tallcakes, thanks for the info. What time period would you date these. They have no markings on them

check the bottom or inside bottom for a Boyd or Degenhart mark. I would think if they were artificially irradiated originals that there would be noticeable wear.

I went and rechecked but there are no marks on inside or outside bottom.

not sure how consistent Boyd and Degenhart were with their marks. If it is indeed an older piece it would be considered damaged in this color. Some folks do like the color tho' so there's always a market for it. I did find one listing of these in amethyst noted as Degenhart.

Ok thanks-did not know about the artificial irradiation till you mentioned, so I looked it up. Good to learn and be informed. Thanks for your help. At least I didn't pay much for these and I do like them :)

I also found one of these listed by an "informed" seller stating that it was from her mother's toothpick holder collection and purchased in 1973 as unmarked Degenhart; that makes more sense than an irradiated original. FWIW I also see the pattern called 'Peacock and Stork', and sometimes as 'Peacock'

      Tallcakes, that sounds good-thank you!
