This Victorian glass hanging basket on a rustic thorn stand was purchased in 2004. At the time, the blue basket had some rather ugly painted "decoration" for want of a better word. I was certain that it wasn't original to the item, & so I tested a bit to see if it would come off - turns out it had been "painted" with liquid paper! I could smell the distinctive odour of it as I scraped it off. Why would someone do that?
The clear glass stand with rustic thorns measures 22 cm tall & 9 cm across the base, which has an embossed daisy pattern.
The basket is made from cased glass - blue over a white interior. It measures 10 cm tall including the applied clear handle & around 5 cm across the petal shaped top rim.
I'm fairly certain this piece of of English origin.

Hi czechglass5, yes, the book attributes these type of hanging baskets to Richardson. I do have another one, which unfortunately suffered damage to the stand in postage (the basket was fine) - it resembled stand of the one pictured on p.184, except the basket is in opalescent uranium yellow & a somewhat different shape. The stand is unusable for hanging a basket now (even if I tried to glue the bits back together it wouldn't be able to safely hold any weight. So one day I hope to find a spare stand. It is annoying when items aren't packaged properly!

Most of the breakages I've had have been when there's multiple items - either a pair of vases, or a piece like this with two parts. Some sellers just don't seem to understand that multiple items need to be kept totally separate from each other so there's no chance of them bumping together. I also sell, & have packed parcels with 8 items or more in them with no breakages due to creating "cells" within the box so nothing can move, or bump.
It would be wonderful to find a spare stand, I'm always looking out for one...so much Victorian glass is found as separated parts (fairy lamps, epergnes, etc) that it shouldn't be an impossible task. I will eventally post a photo of the basket, it is very pretty.

So lucky you found the stand:) I have a hanging Fairy Lamp that belongs

on a stand such as this. Finally, went for a metal brass one:(
