Another example of cut velvet glass, this pink over white cased vase has a vertical ribbed pattern with a satin finish. It measures 21.5 cm tall, 4.7 cm across the top rim, & 7 cm across the base. Once again, I am uncertain of the origin.
I spotted this vase in the window display of a vintage clothing shop, & had to convince the proprietor to sell it to me, as it was supposed to be not for sale, just a display piece.
Lovely stripes, lovely colour and a good size too.
Was this your only venture into that little known sport, Extreme Glass Hunting? Brightened my Monday morning anyway :)
Thanks sklo42, glad you're enjoying both the vase & the story! I have ventured numerous times into extreme glass hunting, sometimes with success, others ending in failure. About 20 years ago I tried to buy a vase that was part of the display in a clothes shop (it was a gigantic Czech Tango orange & turquoise spatter vase with an applied snake/spiral - like some I have posted already but much, much taller) sadly, I did not succeed - but I'm older & a little bolder now & far better at negotiating! :-)
I've also gone through various interesting wrangles such as dealing with customs over a huge box full of peloton glass, tracking down a rogue seller who never sent an item I paid for (not on eBay) & finally getting it after months of detective work, & spotting an item in a price guide book in a bookstore, contacting the shop selling it by mail (my pre internet days) & eventually buying it....you name it, I've done it for glass! :-)
