This is a Yankee No 1555 Breast Drill. The brace is there so you can put your shoulder into it. The last patent date on it is 1910 but apparently it was made for a few years after that.
O the silver section are the settings. PLAIN, L.H. Ratchet, R.H., R.H. DOUBLE, and LOCK.
The other side of the silver section Has Yankee 1555 and the patent dates which are July 23 03 and Aug 23 10.
I have a similar hand drill coming up in the queue.
I wonder if this was the hammer drill of yesteryear? Very cool!
That's cool. Some people make this style of drill into eggbeaters also!
Thank you very much Scott. It probably was.
And thank you very much Thomas.

Thank you SEAN68.
When I first got into the trade, I kept one of these in my toolbox, along with my brace and bits, Yankee screwdriver, and handsaws, just in case we were working in the field, doing concrete forms, and had no, or lost power, before battery operated drill motors! :^)
iggy, this one is way to big to be used for an egg beater! :^D
Thank you billretirecoll. That makes good sense.
It is a bit heavy for an egg beater as it weighs more than a box full of them.
