Here is a photograph of the Lehigh Valley Railroad's "Black Diamond" near Buffalo, NY. Resplendent in its Art-Deco design, this train was the showpiece of the Lehigh Valley.
It's gone, but n0t to be forgotten.....
Hi, roddyq, thanks for the love!
Good afternoon, beyemvey, thank you for the love!
An art deco fantasy, never seen anything like it !~
It does look like something out of a buck rogers movie. Very cool.
Thanks fort and Phil. Yes these were great engines designed by Otto Keuhler, was a famed designer in The Art-Deco era. Raymond Loewy, also a heralded designer of the same era, designed such futuristic engines for The PRR and other lines.
Besides The Black Diamond and its consist of cars, The Valley had other streamlined locomotives designed by Mr. Keuhler....the John Wilkes, and The Asa Packer come to mind. He also crafted the passenger cars for these trains.
Loewy and Keuhler were great designers, and there is a lot of material that can be referenced on them. (I hope that I'm spelling Mr. Keuhler's surname correctly).
I really appreciate your interest in this Black Diamond engine. Though steam powered trains are gone, the great designs live on!
Thank you, Mani, v-50, officialfuel, 'buss, jscott and iggy!
