I'm sorry only a couple of words I can read - plus signed by Christina.
    2. endeeringlyvintage endeeringlyvintage, 8 years ago
      That's alright! It's definitely a good start!

      Is she standing on something?

"A mon bon petit régisseur et ami Valain, sa petite amie Christiane, 1869"
      CHRISTIANE, not CHRISTINA :-)

Rose, right, she seems to float above the floor!

It does look as if she is afloat! Mysterious and lovely lady!

So - if I am to be chastised, what does it say in English?
    7. PostCardCollector PostCardCollector, 8 years ago
To my good "boss"' and friend Valian, Her little friend Christiane
That is what I believe it says Lois ( I spoke French in my last life)

thanks so much for the great start, everyone!! seems like a reasonable translation... i don't think i've been able to find any actresses/opera singers that have the name Christiane. anyone else wanna try their hand?
    9. kyratango kyratango, 8 years ago
Ooohh, Gillian, sorry you feeled chastised :-/
It was really not what I intended!
Only pointing the right name, essential for searching :-)

Lois, your traduction is perfect! Kudos for your French :-)
    10. Efesgirl Efesgirl, 8 years ago
I didn't find anyone with the name Christiane in that time period.

There are loads of examples of Disdéri of Paris photographs on Google Images, but not of this particular image.

A Mademoiselle Fonti sang, as Palmyre character, in the Leo Delibes "opérette" L'ECOSSAIS DE CHATOU, first representation held at Théatre des Bouffes Parisiens on January 16th 1869...
(That could make sense with your other CDV of Melle Bergez, saying Bouffes and Valain!)

@kyratango i think it's definitely a possibility, but the photography from musee d'orsay shows a woman in sleeveles ball-type gown, and in my photo she has sleeves. the faces do look similar to me, though...

@efesgirl ugh i know i've searched almost endlessly through as many disderi images as i can so far ahah

From Musée d'Orsay Disdéri collection, it seems he took photos of some comedians in different years :-)
I really don't know if your unidendified artist is Madame/Mademoiselle Fonti... I found nothing else about her in 19th singers Wikipedia part...
