I remember playing with it as a child (was born in 1952) so when I found it again I put it out. Am a bit worried on trying to clean it or if I should just
leave it alone. Other than that I know nothing about it.
Her features are embroidered on. Eyes are blue and lips are pink.

She is a homemade stockinette doll . The writing is just the print on stocking material . She was made by a Mom or Grandmother . Lots of sentimental value . The had patterns for these dolls and I would say 1950 would be about right age for her , No you can not clean her . If her dress can be unstiched you could wash that but don't get water on her face it will leave watermarks that stay there .

Manikin - Thank you so much! Especially about the cleaning part, because it was really tempting to put her on a delicate wash and hope for the best. If handmade I imagine my mother did it, tho the heavy embroidery on the face threw me off. Only the hat is attached, all of the clothes come off. Thank you again! Jane P.

Your welcome . The reason face will water stain lines is because it can't dry fast enough with all stuffing so as it dries it leaves like lines of where dirt remains no matter how clean you get it .Also the fabric in these older dolls don't hold up to water or threads like embroidery can break or tear .
