1870s Tiffany Sterling Pillbox Pendant. Approximately 1.75 inches tall. Shaped like a basket with a large stone placed in the basket. Bottom opens to store oils or snuff. I would appreciate any information I can get as I do not know exactly what it is called or how much it might be worth.

Why do you think it's made by Tiffany? I only see a 925 stamp on the bail.

There are numbers on the piece the chain would go thru and when I searched that on the internet it showed that those numbers traced back to do V made by Tiffany's between 1870 and 1880.

So, the numbers are on the inside of the bail - what are the numbers?

      Fluorite? Blue John? Amethyst?

First, I apologize for not responding sooner, but I have been dealing with serious health issues for both me and my husband. Regarding the Pendant, there is a second set of numbers on the bail, above the 925, that are worn down and do not show up in the pictures. The numbers are 2613 which indicates a date between 1870 and 1875. I researched online and found that Tiffany had a table that would tell you when the piece was made and that it was indeed made by them. You can find it at this URL: http://www.chineseargent.com/home/tiffany-date-mark I believe the stone is quartz, possibly cut from a geode. When you hold it up to a light it is more translucent and actually has a grain to it. Because this is a vintage piece I would like to get some idea of the value for insuring it. I don't know if it's $5 or $5,000 (it really doesn't matter because I intend to keep the piece). Any help will be appreciated.

CW doesn't offer appraisals I'm afraid.

I thought Tiffany pieces were marked 'Tiffany' ? The stone looks like an agate of some kind.

I'm not looking for an appraisal, just an educated guess from ones more knowledgeable about vintage jewelry than me. If it appears to be worthwhile, I will then get an actual appraisal. I am disabled And simply seeking to not spend money for no benefit.

My guess is modern and made in India.

I'm sorry, but it is just not Tiffany quality, either.

Could be Bali / Indonesia as well.

Any idea or information as to how I might find out?
