Rare Spanish passport issued during Spanish Civil War which ended on 4/1/39. This a mother and child seeking to emigrate to Uruguay via Lisbon. She lived in the north west part of Spain above Portugal but required a Safe Conduct Pass to travel between Pentaverde and the port of Vigo near Cadiz through a territory controlled by the Franco Nationalists. From Vigo, she boarded a ship to Lisbon and from Lisbon she traveled 3rd Class on the SS Groix. Nice!
Aragundi is Basque family name and she emigrated from Galicia province. Having in mind repression against Basque and Galician people she was lucky to leave Spain in time. Amazing piece of history not to be found in textbooks with dates, battles and events, but destiny of ordinary people.
