This is a wonderfully odd and unusual Edwardian silver plated bookmark/letter opener with an impressively large figural stag beetle on the handle that I gave my wife on our anniversary (what can I say, she likes bugs!). The beetle is highly detailed on both sides and measures 58mm (2.3") long not measuring the actual bookmark. It is in excellent condition with no damage and it is made from some kind of silver plated metal. The bookmark measures 145mm (5.75") long by 25mm (1") across at the beetle.

    Thanks for looking!

      kyratango,

      LOL....!!

Now, had it been a spider rather than a stag beetle, then....YIKES..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      ; - )
    5. kyratango kyratango, 8 years ago
Doesn't matter for me, if the spider is precious :-)
      Otherwise.... run and scream!!!
    6. Hyp-storian, 8 years ago
I would not run and scream- I would scream and run.
And probably keep screaming while I was running!
Whenever I see one I call out to my wife: "spider!!", and she comes running with a
glass and piece of paper and then carefully puts it in the glass, takes it outside, and
releases it. If it's not too big she actually picks it up with her HANDS.
      Seriously!!
When it come to spiders, she is MUCH braver than me...

Lol! I'm even afraid of... butterflies, and run and scream if a living one lands on me!

      In fact, I have "morethan4leggedcritterphobia" Ô..Ô
    8. Hyp-storian, 8 years ago
Nope, I only fear spiders (even small ones!).
I actually love it when butterflies or dragonflies land on me.
Then again, I never bothered to count their legs. Do they ALSO have more than 4?
If so, then that IS kind of creepy and disturbing!
      Uh oh.......
      ; - )

      Insects: 6 legs----> run
Arachnids: 8 legs-----> run and scream!
Myriapods: many legs!----> don't count... scream and run!!!

Birds, humans: 2 legs----> if not frienly run!

      ;-)))))

Thanks so much for that highly informative and helpful analysis!
However, while you successfully categorized potential danger according to the number of legs, you neglected to add the "eyes on stalks" factor. Creatures possessing eyes on stalks (lobsters, crabs, etc.) are ALSO creepy and (highly) disturbing, and should be sufficiently feared and avoided at all costs!
      Just sayin'.....

Haha! They fit in the more than 4 legs category, and I wouldn't even touch a living shrimp :-P
But I must say if I encounter a cooked lobster, I won't avoid it... And that is COSTLY here!
    12. Hyp-storian, 8 years ago
Comedian Jim Gaffigan refers to lobster as "bug meat" (LOL)!
I'll eat it as "lobster salad" in the form of plain white chunks, but would NEVER crack open the whole creature on a plate and pick out the meat- EWWWWW!
