This is a 1920's Putnam Dye store counter display cabinet. Years ago many people dyed their garments at home with commercial brand dyes. This cabinet has a graphic of Gereral Putnam on horseback being chased by British redcoats. The front opens up to reveal pigeon holes for the packets of dye. There is also a booklet that shows all the colors available, as well as how to dye your garments. The colors are still vibrant. The Putnam Dye Company was based in Quincy Illinois.

I had one of the cover pieces without the cabinet and sold it for $35. Yours is a great piece.

I have this same Putnam Fadeless Dyes box you are writing about. I'm thrilled to have just acquired it in Northern California. Thank you for the great description! See you at the Alameda Fairs if you go there, readers :)!

I have one of these. It was in my great grandfather's store in Indiana. It still has the dyes and instruction books in it. I've used one of the packets, too. It's neat!
