When one lives in a log cabin it is required that one buys the old animal traps often seen in antique stores. One like this would have been used for animals about the size of a raccoon. They seem rather unpleasant to use but if this what one has to do to put food on the table it is understandable.
So far what I have been able to figure out about this piece is that is a Victor trap just like the mouse and rat traps seen in stores today.
Apparently Victor is still making these or some like these. The information on this is on the bait plate but I have not been able to read it. I have a similar one and hopefully I can figure that one out.
It should say the size # and unless they have two plants it should be made in Ontario ,Canada. Great for the cabin walls.
I used to have a bunch of Victor #2 traps at my Mom's house. But, they've mysteriously disappeared. I do still have a small Victor trap hanging in my garage with the original owners name and tag number still on it from the 1950's.
I have one that belonged to my great Grandfather, I knew him well. He was a hunter/sportsman back in the 30s-60s.
I've set many of these & up to the #14 Oneida jump traps. Approach carefully if the drowning set didn't work. A muskrat will charge when caught. Had beavers pull the drowning weight out of the water & stand ready to fight.
I certainly wouldn't use this small trap for beaver. My preference is the connibear style body grip trap.
I did mention the #14 Oneida jumps. They WILL hold a beaver.
I stand corrected...I was looking at the posted trap. The #14 Oneida jump will definitely hold a beaver....I just like using the connibear....sorry blunderbuss2.
Thank you very much Caperkid. It has a few numbers. I shall investigate further.
Thank you very much Scott. Cool to have something like that.
Thank you very much rockbat. Also cool to have that piece.
Thank you very much bb2. Beavers can kill, those teeth are rip open an artery. No beaver or muskrat here.
PS I had a victor mouse trap and it actually slew a mouse. Mice in a house are bad news. I have 2 big black mouse traps now and the mice do not even think about it.
Thank you
