And at the top of the list as of January 1st is this:
#1 ~ Co-writer of the 1960s hippie musical HAIR! Gerome Ragni's Original Designer Hippie Denim & Leather Jeans. Acquired from a personal friend of Gerome, who told the story he was invited to go on a trip with Gerome and his son - but had nothing to wear. So Mr. Ragni generously said "go into my closet and pick out anything you want" - and his friend chose this masterpiece. And now they hang mounted on my within a large acrylic case. I have not been able to verify if Gerome (1935-1991) wore these in a production of HAIR! as he also performed in it during the earlier years... The designer of these was named YU (in red letters over silver on hip), I unfortunately have not been able to track down any information on him/her. Perhaps a theatrical costume designer? Even with these here to unanswered questions, definitely a museum quality artifact of the hippie era and also Broadway as well.
i saw Hair on broadway in 1970 - when i was just 7 yrs old - with my older sister, and my aunt and uncle. it was a seminal moment in my young life!! i still have the original record somewhere too.
i'm so glad that you are documenting the 60s! i'm amazed that more people haven't done what you are doing.
What does it say on the buttons on the pants?
ho2cultcha - you are ahead of me, I have never seen HAIR! live... AND to see it on BROADWAY in 1970!!!! What an experience, you were lucky. ...Thanks, I am trying. Too many of these items are coming from estate sales - I want to preserve the memorabilia, the lifestyle and whenever possible, the memories of those who lived it.
SEAN68 - unfortunately I didn't record that information before framing...and it is currently hanging too high on my wall for me to read.
