The Indian Head Jar by McCoy is an interesting piece with a fascinating history. Not only is it one of the few jars that is a bust figure, but it was proposed to be an emblem! In 1954, Pontiac Motors was looking to see if someone could create a figure that would be the Pontiac emblem. McCoy Pottery Co. was one of those chosen, and with lots of patient work, created this wonderful work of art. The piece was taken to Pontiac Motors for inspection and recognition. Sadly for McCoy, their figure was not chosen for the emblem. (this version did not have "cookies" on the front base) However, McCoy did decide to get some use out of this creation, so they produced jars for the public through 1956. This version has the word cookies and is cold painted. This jar is rare and was not mass produced. It has a McCoy uSA type 1 mark. and seems to have variation in the cold painted details from piece to piece.
