I inherited this trunk from my papa and I am looking for any information that anyone can tell me about it based on its appearance. The only markings I have found were on the lock it reads "Yale and Towne mfg co Stamford Connecticut. Thank you in advance I'm excited to learn the history of this beautiful piece!

Hello, your trunk is a style that was patented as the "cross slatted trunk" by Charles Taylor of Chicago. It is a barrel top with embossed tin covering. (these were also made in flat and slightly rounded top models) The embossed metal of this style was made from about 1888 to the early 1920's. This was a very popular style trunk and made by many American trunk companies during those years. Based on the lock style and the other hardware, the trunk was most likely made between about 1890 to 1910. I have several old trunk catalogs of that time period that all show similar trunk models made in several sizes. It's great that the original inner tray is still there. Several lock companies made locks for these trunks including Eagle Lock Company, Yale & Towne, and Corbin. I hope that helps. Enjoy your antique trunk!
