This Victorian glass vase is made from clear glass with a band of opalescence around the neck. It has a ribbed pattern & applied Peloton threads in pink, blue, yellow, & white. The vase is mounted on a silverplate stand, which is simply marked EPNS. Measuring 21.5 cm tall, 8 cm across the double crimped top rim, & 9.5 cm across the base of the silverplate stand, it also has three applied twisted clear glass handles. The bottom of the vase is pegged, & cemented into the stand with plaster of Paris, in the manner of an epergne fitting.
This vase was purchased in Bath, on my trip to England in 2003. When I spotted it towards the back of a display cabinet, I was ready to pay any price - & it only ended up costing me £15. No, I didn't even bother to haggle!
Beautiful piece! I'm no expert but it sure looks like Peloton glass.
Many thanks, courtenayantiques, yes, Peloton it definitely is, of a rather unusual form.
Gorgeous! I love peloton glass but it so rarely comes up for sale when it does it sells for crazy money. You got a bargain!
Thanks so much, Vintagefran! Yes, it was one of my best ever buys, & remains a lovely reminder of my first ever overseas trip, too.
