In 1948, someone at the Andrew Jergens Company of Cincinnati, Ohio decided it would be a clever marketing idea to create a scent called "Atom Bomb" and to package it in bomb-shaped bottles. The end of World War II was fresh in the American psyche and the future of atomic warfare hadn't yet been given much consideration. It probably wasn't the brightest marketing decision.

Since these bottles only seem to turn up in the 1/4 ounce sample size - larger bottles may exist but I've yet to see one - I assume the product was unsuccessful and quickly withdrawn. The sample bottles are plentiful and can be found with both foil and paper labels.

Very cool. Perfect for the atomic age.

:-o it does look like slat and pepper shakers! Can you still smell the "fragrance"?

OK - I took a chance. I opened and whiffed the one with some fluid left in it and have survived some twenty minutes now. To me, it had the same sort of rancid floral-in-alcohol scents that keeps me from smelling these things in the first place. I'm not sure how accurately it represents the original scent but at least it didn't smell like a barbecue.

      Thanks everyone.
