I could really use some help identifying this piece. It is a turtle with the top opening and hung by a braided cord. I cannot tell if it is tortoise shell that's been carved or bakelite. My Mother said she thought it was carved tortoise shell with inlay. It appears to be some sort of turtle box necklace. What do you guys think?? I appreciate in advance any information you might be able to help me with.
Bovine horn, "snuff box", probably made in India in the 1970'.

Thank you for the good leads Kyratango! I am curious about the cord that is attached. Wondering if perhaps it was changed out at some point? I have much research to do...
