Here is a mirror I found yesterday at a local Charlotte, NC thrift shop. It has 2 types of wood veneer, and it's really beautiful. It has a label on the back of thick paper held in place with nails, that reads:
Porter & Fitchett
Importers of Hardware and Cutlery,
Dealers in Looking-Glasses and Fancy-Goods,
S.E. Corner Second & Coates Sts.
Philadelphia
I cannot find ANYthing on the internet about this Philadelphia importing company, Porter & Fitchett. Through my research, the only thing I can figure out is: the frame can be dated to pre-1853 as in 1853, the name of Coates St. was changed to Fairmont Ave. Mirror glass may or may not have been replaced, it's in excellent shape if it's that old, but it also seems kind of wavy... maybe was replaced, but a very long time ago. Also, it may have been part of a furniture set, as on the bottom of the frame are the marks in picture #4. Large, measures 34 x 23 x 2 inches. Would love to know more! Thanks!
