I was quite keen to get my hands on this and went some distance to get it. It is referenced in Truitt II page 71.
Some have suggested that this may be Ruckl, and it may be, but what I have discovered is somewhat disappointing. I own a few pieces that I regard as being Ruckl and the quality of manufacture is excellent, generally thick substantial glass superbly executed. However this piece is rather 'cheap', don't get me wrong it looks great on the shelf and the colour is fabulous. But the handles and base are painted! This came as a big surprise to me as handles on pieces like this : http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/204973-ruckl-two-handled-coral-shimmy-pfau-vase are solid glass, no paint here on a piece generally regarded as Ruckl.

So maybe these were just a cheap mass produced range, who knows. Still a nice thing despite the paint.

I believe that the Rückl "suggestions" arose in this forum from a handle similarity to a couple of Tango exhibit pieces..... Certainly not a solid means to attribute them.

It has been suggested previously that Rückl used Nickel to help clarify lead crystal production, and it can also be used to color glass black. In light of that, I would be surprised if they painted glass black like you are describing on this piece.

Thanks Craig... you've made my point for me in a much more explanatory way ;)

haha Val! This is just the thing I was talking about a minute ago. Something that would happen to me...Although it is pretty, and I'm with Val there, I'd take it off your hands, I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

OK, I get the point - I sound like I'm moaning about it - I'm not really, I was just pretty surprised - anyway, as you lot all want it, I think I'll keep it as I like it a lot more now.
