So someone decided to pitch this bike in the trash one day at work. I thought it looked cool and my dad is a serious rider so I thought it would be cool for him to restore. Everything seems to be original on it. Only thing for identification that I have found on it was a plate on the front that read "Hawthorne" and a shield that reads montgomery ward. The bike itself is red with a tan leather seat. I would love to know how old it is and what it would be worth as is and fixed up?
I was just at a place here in AZ called All Bikes that has a 38 year old collection of bicycles and motorcycles... over 3 acres piled high... I asked about a 16 inch Hawthorne and he told me 300 bucks.. more than any other brand of similar type he had.
I would have to say prolly around the mid-40s, great find.
thanks guys. very helpful.
with the extra bar alot of times this is a tell sign that it is from the 50 era nice bike im looking at a jc higgins and it alot alike
i wish i could find stuff like that in the trash..
