These have been handed down for generations in our family from 1901. It's mourning jewlery containig queen Victoria's hair. One is inscribed V.R.I. 22nd June 1901, R.I.P with a glass from with spun gold on top of the hair and is the size of a nickel. A jewler verified they are both gold. The button clip is about the size of a nickel plus the hook. The back is filled with woven and spun hair closed under glass. The front contains a polished garnet, confirm by a jemologist. A descendant in our family was one of the jewlers for the royal family. This is about all the information we have on it and are searching for someone who maybe have more information on it. We aren't looking to sell and have already had an appraisal. We are curious about what the historical value of these two items would be?! Does anyone know who would have wore these two pieces.

There isn't any way to know who might have worn this jewelry unless a picture exists of any of her daughters actually wearing either of these items. Victoria had five daughters. There is no provenance.

It's 22 January, 1901 that Victoria died. The one with supposedly her hair could have been for her ladies in waiting, or some other person close to her. She had a gazillion grandchildren, great grandchildren.

The heart shaped garnet piece looks like a clasp from a bracelet. If you google Scottish victorian bracelets you should find some examples of bracelets with similar lockets.

(The Scottish style is different to the bracelet that your little clasp would have originally oame from, but you frequently see this type of clasp in Scottish jewellery so you should find a few relatively easily.)
