This is a WW II Japanese NCO Shin-Gunto pattern sword. This model was introduced in 1933 or 1934, and was issued to NCO's as a regulation requirement. Wheras an officers sword has brown cloth covering the hilt, the NCO sword hilt is painted to represent the brown cloth. The scabbard is painted green. There is a serial number on the blade which matches that of the scabbard. Attached to the tassel loop on the end of the hilt is a NCO leather sword knot. The belt is just one type of belt and hanger which would be used to carry this sword.
