Purchased in Japan 1964, painted 1968. Anyone know about this pedal car?

My Army Doctor father bought two of these pedal cars while stationed in Yokohama Japan in the early 1960s. After resettling in the US, we painted this car to look like Herbie the Love Bug in 1968. This car was used heavily and is in good mechanical condition albeit a little rust, old accident scars and tires that have degraded. I am not looking for an appraisal, but I sure would love to hear from anyone who could tell me more about this car. I have looked around and have never seen another pedal car that matches up. We love the car and keep on display in our family room. GoHerbieGo!
