WHAT IS IT? WHAT DOES IT SAY? MYSTERY LAMP!

This lamp is said to have belonged to a Doctor's estate. The son shared that his father(the doctor)was an avid World Traveler and that his father brought this "ugly"lamp back with him from one of his "Indiana Jones" type adventures. The son disliked the lamp so much that he stated he just wanted to "get rid of it" My husband happened to be in the right place at the right time and we acquired the lamp for Free!

The lamp has Asian Symbols on it and an Asian Letter Finial. The shade itself is accented with tightly strung everyday string! DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SECRET MESSAGE OF THE LAMP?
The lamp height with Finial included is: 29"
The height of the Finial Is: 2"
The width across the Lamp Base is: 19"
The Height of the circle edging on saucer shaped base is 2"
The total height of the basic UFO shaped base is 6 1/2" tall.
The finish on this lamp looks to be Gold Leaf over a Ceramic-Like base.
On the bottom of the base is smoothed with some sort of glued on white cheesecloth like material on its under bottom to prevent scratching of surfaces.
THIS LAMP IS A TOTAL MYSTERY TO ME!
