I am wondering about placing photos in the real leather albums with the acid toned pages and other issues. I feel it may likewise "infect" my photos with acid toning . So for now, I am just filling albums with the pockets and sleeves--Collapsing many shelves!
Both photos are from NY, both Civil War Era. They are fairly young ladies and I expect their husbands perished in the conflict or from injuries thereof. The black edging on the photo left, may have indicated she was mourning and was added by the photographer for such photos. out of respect. I don't have any others like that--or that I have noticed.

I suppose it is kind of morbid, but people do collect women in mourning attire. Now my question today is---About husbands--Is there a proper recognizable type of outfit that a man would wear, and folks would right away know--he has recently lost his wife??

Look for lignin- and acid-free (archival quality) pages or sheets of the archival-quality plastic to place between photos and pages, and you'll be fine.
