Flea market find from today as well. Cannot remember how much I paid, might be 30 cents.
The brooch just screams Czechoslovakia to me. Not just from the style, the lion on the brooch is erb animal for both Czechoslovakia and todays Czech republic. So some patriotic person owned this brooch before it landed in my hands.
Update for state sign for Czechoslovakia:

Thank you for posting this wonderful brooch, and for sharing some history with your readers. The clasp and the style of the jewelry suggest a slightly different era to me, 40s, but I am more inclined to follow your lead as you would know best what the iconography implies. Fascinating! :)

Katherine, might be 1940s as well, I am no expert... Czechoslovakia was invaded by Hitler in 1939 and Czech rep. was occupied until 1945, so wearing such a statement brooch might be dangerous? I dont know... but maybe late 1940s then?

That would be my guess based on the clasp and style, but as you say there are other factors at play here. I'm not strong in my European history and how it relates to jewelry like this. Perhaps some research at a local library would help?

Thank you! Yep I agree. It interests me as well. I think I will ask for help online, there is a czech forum where people might know more.

So I received the answer promptly. The lion was part of state sign of Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ( protectorate of Nazi Germany established following the German occupation of Czechoslovakia ) as well, so it could be worn during that time as well.
So very interesting! I wonder who the original owner was and what was her story.
