This Victorian Peloton glass basket is made from two layers of cased glass - clear over white, with a satin finish, & applied Peloton threads in pink, blue, yellow, & white. It measures 20 cm tall including the looped handle, 17 cm across the crimped top rim, & 7.5 cm across the base.
This was purchased from the USA around 12 years ago, & was one of the worst buying experiences I've ever had - it was purchased from an online store specialising in glass. I organised with the seller to pay in two installments, which they were fine with doing...but after I sent off the second payment, I had absolutely no communication from the seller to indicate that the basket was posted....I waited, emailed, waited, emailed again...nothing. So, I was starting to get pretty concerned, & decided to get in touch with the administrator of the site, who was quite helpful, but also couldn't get in touch with the seller. Weeks turned into months...then I did a little research, & found a seller of the same name, with the same stuff, now selling on eBay. Let's just say, that thanks to a complaint I made to eBay about this person's unscrupulous practices, I was finally able to get my item...
All of a sudden they couldn't email me enough after several months of silence. The excuse they gave was that my item was held up in Australian Customs - total nonsense, as having experienced that with another purchase, I know that Customs get in touch with you about any issue they might have with a parcel. Also, the date on the postmark gave it away, that they only posted the item a week before - no way had it been held up or lost in the mail. I suppose they thought that this overeseas buyer would just suck it up & not try to chase them down, & that they'd get away with ripping me off, but no way was I going to miss out on this basket!
Great read Iron lace. Perseverence paid off, sleazy weasels they were.
I'm having a bit of an issue at the moment with a Gumtree sale.....Gumtree! I may have to visit a seller in Brisbane.
Lovely bowl, despite its former owners.
Many thanks, nutsabotas6, & thanks for your kind words!
Thanks also, racer4four, & all the best with your Gumtree issues, hope it works out for the best! I've actually had very few issues with my countless online buys - most sellers are awesome, but the bad apples do stick in your mind, unfortunately.
Hi IronLace. What a story! Well done for persueing and persevering. Glad to see you got justice and the basket :) It's lovely. The colours look more vivid than usual. I've yet to see any Peloton in real life.
