      If those are momentary switches on the top my guess is that it is some sort of signaling device such as a bell to begin and end classes. If so it predates electromechanical programmable devices. Do you know how many classrooms were in the old school?

      It seems to be a resistor box ,removing the knob resistor is inserted.

      Rickster, You have a telegraph resistor board, the number are for the amount of resistance you want to add to a line. The resistor boards have a value of $25.00 and up.
