Hello everyone! Im here to seek a bit of help to solve this mystery knife that i have been carrying around with me for quite some time and cant seem to let go mentaly or emotionaly! This knife carries its own stories with its original owner as he rest in peace and got put into my hands with a word of silence as ive seen my created mystery of my own to figure out! How old it is? What make? What do the dots mean on the handle? (My guess was the age, somewhat like a code?) The imprinted symbol of a man's face with curly hair and couldnt make out the inscription underneath it, also on the other side theres more inscriptions and to the best of my knowledge i see some english but also another language and possibly from Germany? If anyone can help me find the answers to my puzzle so i can have my own story to tell would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

that's an anton wingens jr knife. made in Solingen Germany. probably very late 40s or early 50s. very well known manufacturer . the age is a guess based on its pinned stag handles. most made any newer than the early 50s don't have pinned stags. I haven't read that any where. its an observation ive seen to be true most of the time based on the 100 or so knives that I have.

very nice knife. certainly worth continuing to keep.

the knife could have the name Othello engraved on the ricasso . that's part of his trade mark.

whyatt is correct. I saved image 4 turned it into a negative and rotated it. I can fairly clearly read what looks like ANION followed by a W below that I can clearly read Solingen Germany.

Looking at picture 2 I see a mans face and a rather bushy hair almost afro style, under the image is a word that is kind of in a half circle. The last four letters of the word are either SNLO or SHLO, and they are quite clear at 200% enlargement, under that it is marked Solingen Germany.
    6. whyatt whyatt, 8 years ago
it may look like SHLO to you, but its OTHELLO. research a few pics. of an Othello knife and youll see plenty of them.
its handle looks like a trapper style that was made . the blade looks more like a fighting knife on yours. nice knife !
    7. whyatt whyatt, 8 years ago
that may be the trapper. the pics may not show its true curvature.

on a side note. Othello made these grips of different colors on purpose. for what reason , Im not sure . perhaps export only..... perhaps profit...... perhaps.... ?
the pics youll see will have other Othello knives with different grip shades on the stags.

itd be interesting to find out what the holes were put there for. viet nam ... that's a stretch.

Wow! Thank you! I also wanted to mentioned that the first owner of the knife was an exotic hunter! That may help!
