Chinoiserie gazebo. Thank you, Pascale!
There were two of these but the other one had a chip, so I just took the perfect one. :-)))) There is a tiny firing fault in the bottom inside area. I also wonder if the image in the bottom might have been gilded at some point.
I haven't the foggiest idea what that image is on the bowl. The only mark is an impressed number 14. Measures 4 1/2 inches across.
UPDATE: Info from an educated friend:
Victorian Staffordshire flow blue transfer decorated slop bowl in a Chinese style. When tea was expensive the used tea leaves or slops were emptied into a bowl from the tea strainer..
These were given to the servants to make their own tea.
Thanks for stopping by,
Bonnie
I'm a push over for all things cobalt!
The oriental theme was popular in 1830s-1850s English pottery.
It's likely a pagoda representation.
SpiritBear - it does resemble a pagoda. The detail/depth is truly amazing.
A chinoiserie gazebo :-)
It is very nice! And... Bonnie priced!
Forgot to say your cover girl profile is GREEAAT!
Very nice!!
great find, I would have bought the other one as well. Good wabi in chipped ones.
