    (149 items)

Nice French Au Depart trunk with lovely brass rivets. Back hinges are beautiful... quality cabin trunk early 1900's. Label says Lucerne... if so the was this Swiss made -- an off branch maker? Was looking it up but didn't seem clear. This one was at a Montreal Depot for used goods... (big warehouse full of vintage junk) sat on a stack of those ubiquitous cheap blue trunks for about a year. Finally went over to take a look and couldn't resist. Nice small size...

T-Man The labels above is from one of my trunks listed on collectors weekly, which was also made in the French speaking part of Switzerland.Lausanne.The origins of The two brothers was located in Northern France in Haute-Marne I believe that the house had partnerships with others to produce their goods (Franchises if you will, More than likely by those trained by The two Brothers Bertin Jeune and Bertin Fils) Switzerland would have been a logical choice for branching out of the business.Especially since these were places to vacation during the time period. Here is a brief history with a few pictures.

Some other advertising! Sorry History of AuDepart won't post off Wikapedia link is messed up. But these two links provide Advertising for L. Amrein and if you scroll down each link a glimpse into the past of the Lucern regions items for sale
during the heyday of train and steamship travel.

Thanks for all of the incredible info Drill! It's great to find some background on these makers... they were great craftsman. Great to see your labels and trunks for comparison... some consistencies throughout. It took me a year to finally go see this one it was listed too high but what I didn't know was that they mark down every month somethings not sold. Affordable fun...

Hey T-Man according to the advertising one of their locations was the national hotel Lucerne, Which in later years became the "Ritz Lucern". Additionally one ad claims to have been awarded "The Diploma of Honor 1895" This was an Exhibition in Bordeaux, for different manufacturers and Displays of Advancements in culture.
