I found this in my mom's antique stuff... I don't know if it goes back to her great grandfather in the Civil War or her brother in World War ll. Can someone identify for me? It says US 17. It has a screw-on back.

It is a US Army collar disk. This type of collar insignia was used from just before WW1 until the late 1930s.

The "17" represents a unit designation-- such as 17th Regiment and would have been accompanied by another disk (worn on other collar) that showed the wearers branch.

The gold gilt and "pebbled" background dates yours from the late 1920s- late 1930s time period.

Wow! Thank you for the good information. I will look for another Disk that went on the other collar.
