This belonged to Pvt. Valentine LaPoint of the 81st NY regiment
in the Civil War. Val, as he was called, was badly wounded at
the 1864 battle of Cold Harbor in Virginia. I purchased this
item with several other former belongings of the good private,
and this archive was laying loose, so I had it framed at a local
shop.
His wartime tintype I have up here on this site.
