Hi All - I bought this a couple of days ago from a local thrift shop for 2 dollars and change. They mistook the C 5 mark (stamped upside down) for a "90", which is a mark for silver plate. I had Geri test it to make doubly sure this is silver.
I've been looking on the net trying to find out where/when the tongs were made, but can't find what looks like the head of a Monarch and the letters P and R. Definitely not a Dutch silver mark and pretty sure it's not a Belgian mark. Not the UK. I looked at Poland but didn't find it there, either.
!~HELP~!
Thanks for stopping,
Bonnie
Thomas - Thanks for trying. I assume the P and R are the maker marks. Geri had a go at the marks yesterday afternoon and between the two of us we have not a clue. Once I figure out what country claims the lady with a tiara/crown, I might be able to figure out the rest.
Nice find, hope you solve your mystery :D
