Good afternoon everyone,
Pictured above is a 1954 Lionel Trains consumer catalog offering their new line of model trains. Featured in the catalog is the Texas special set and the crowd pleaser photo 3 and 4 Santa Fe Emperor Chief diesel # 2353P ( powered ) # 2353T ( Non-powered ) units and set which included 4 streamlined cars, # 2530 baggage car, # 2532 illuminated Vista-Dome pullman car " Silver Range", # 2533 illuminated pullman car " Silver Cloud", and # 2534 " Silver Bluff" pullman. 8 curved track, 9 straight pieces all for $89.50
The powered engine was equipped with Magne - Traction which Lionel incorporated into some of their O gauge engines since 1950. Magne -Traction was added to increase engine pulling power. and to keep the trains from flying off the track at higher speeds. Magne -Traction is simply the addition of magnets to some of the axles.
The catalog measures 7 7/8" h by 11 1/4 long and has 44 pages full of photos of sets , operating cars like the coal dumper, and cattle car to name a couple. Any time I see these catalogs I pick them up as they are full of detailed information when trying to piece sets together, plus everything that originally came with the pieces are included in the catalogs.
