Here we have a sweet little sign copyrighted 1935 by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of N.Y., Inc.
At 9-1/2 x 14-1/2 this regional piece was handed out to store owners by drivers/salesmen along their routes, to promote drinking the Delicious and Refreshing beverage in the wintertime. Sales dropped off when the snow started flying. Electric refrigeration was just starting to become common to households during the 30's.
The Snowman and other graphic art elements are outstanding. What makes it truly special is content on back. Pictures of Long Island City, NY Coca-Cola truck drivers in uniform - complete with names and nicknames. This may have been something someone created in the office as a gag, or out of pride, or as a retirement memento. I dunno! It is very well done and took some time.
Condition demanded conservation. Frame/Matte cost more than the sign! :0) Found just one previous auction result, so an uncommon little find.
Love that stuff! Takes you back in time and makes me feel like I was there. Great stuff!
Thanks CK, I'm with you, a little time capsule with enough imagination.
Looks freaking awesome Dave!
Thank you Chad. Framer did a nice job. They seemed amused that I had mock up pics and specific instructions on dimensions of frame and matte. The only thing they couldn't do was cut the matte to keep the copyright detail visible.
That's waaay too cool Dave! Nice find buddy!!
Thanks Bern!
Pretty great find Dave!
Thanks Perry, not too many out there I don't think.
Yeah, I'm sure that's true! We've been a lot of places and I've never seen anything close to that. Great score Dave! We're going to Brimfield next month and I'll see if anything antique Coca Cola shows up there. We're also hitting the whole East coast on the way up, who knows what I might see.
Sounds like fun Perry. Always nice to mix in a little "business" with the pleasure. Monkey Business. LOL! Sorry, man. Had too many comments working!!!
LOL, no problem.
